In contrast to its neighboring states, Connecticut doesn't have the same strength and depth in golf as other states. There are 160 golf clubs and around 180 courses. Our selections for the top 10 golf courses in Connecticut include some hidden gems you will want to check out for yourself on your next golf trip.
10. Shennecossett Golf Course
The Donald Ross course, which debuted in 1898, will serve as the starting point of our top ten rankings. The course has a par of 71, measures 6562 yards, has a slope of 124, and has a rating of 71.7. It features lovely blue grass fairways. Shennecosset is a challenging course with powerful holes, but it's also thrilling. Shennecosset boasts a gently rolling landscape that is free of obstructions and overgrown trees. Overlooking holes 1 and 18, where a slope rising from the bay reaches its peak and the terrain partly flattens, the historic clubhouse stands.
9. Richter Park Golf Course
There is a lot more golf to consider in this tiny but powerful state. Richter Park Golf Course, which is our ninth course overall, is a championship course on the other side of the state. It has been classified not just as a top 10 public golf course in Connecticut, but also as one of the top 25 public golf courses nationwide, thus it probably deserves to be a little higher on this list. Edward Ryder constructed this par-72 course, which is 6744 yards long, with a slope of 139 and a rating of 73.6.
8. Pequot Golf Club
Given that it is close to Connecticut's largest casino, item number eight on our list could be worth the gamble. was undoubtedly constructed in 1958 and was designed by Wendell Ross. It is a par-70 hole that is just 5,900 yards long, with a slope of 118, and has an overall rating of 78.7. The course has a shift in elevation and narrow fairways.
7. Connecticut National Golf Club
Connecticut National Golf Club is a 6930-yard, par-71 course with a slope rating of 133 and an overall rating of 72.8. The course was created in 1994, had significant modifications in 2007, and is obviously accessible to everyone. It's a fantastic layout set in a lovely rural setting. Bunkers, Elevation Changes, and Undulating Greens are some of the course's challenges.
6. Oxford Greens Golf Club
The next course on our list is a par 72 that runs 7100 yards, with a slope of 135 and a challenging grade of 75.4. Oxford Greens golf club was established in 2007 and features bent grass fairways and greens. It has received multiple accolades and is simply an excellent golf course. The course is in excellent condition; the tee boxes are superb, the fairways are lush, and the greens roll better than ever.
5. Gillette Ridge Golf Course
The Gillette Ridge course is 7 191 yards long, with a difficult slope of 140 and a grade of 74.5. Of course, it was completed in 2004 and is open all year. It was designed by Arnold Palmer, so you know it's fantastic. It is one of the most difficult rounds in New England. The course winds through a picturesque setting of natural wetlands and woods of tall maple, oak, and elm trees.
4. North Course at Lake of Isles
Another wonderful golf course situated at Lake of Isles is directly on the borderline. There are two courses here, and we chose the north course, which measures 7279 yards from the back tees and has a slope rating of 147 and a rating of 76.4. Reese Jones designed the course, which was created in 2005 and contains fairways made of bent grass. The course offers tremendous elevation changes, a winding path through the forests, and several beautiful vistas over bodies of water. The story is driven by a lot of elevation changes, including a lot of large downhill shots.
3. Wintonbury Hills Golf Course
Number three presents a unique situation since we will be returning to Bloomfield Wintonbury Hills Golf Course and taking a closer look at a fantastic links-style golf course. This par-70 course is 6711 yards long, with a slope rating of 141, and a rating of 78.5. The Pete Dye-designed course was constructed in 2005 and is accessible all year round. If we have seen a championship golf course thus far, it is this one because of the bent grass and bent fairways that are present everywhere.
2. Great River Golf Club
The par 72, 7006-yard great river golf course has a slope rating of 148 and a rating of 74.6. The putting greens and fairways on the course are both made of bent grass. This Tommy Fazio course was constructed in 2001. The golf course always looks excellent and includes a few very challenging holes. A couple of the par 4 holes have difficult tee shots, with holes 4 and 7 coming to mind. Three of the par 3 holes may play over 180 from the blues, and two of them play 200+ with forced carry. For a serious golfer, it's a pleasant challenge.
1. Keney Park Golf Club
After carefully weighing several factors, including history and web rankings, we decided that Keney Park Golf Club was the best course in Connecticut. Despite the fact that it's not necessarily the most picturesque golf course on our list, it did place as the top public course. It is a par-70 that is 6449 yards long, with a 127 slope, and a ranking of 70.6. The golf course was constructed in 1927 and underwent several improvements in 2016 by a number of well-known goth designers. Huge greens on a very intriguing course layout. Several greens have extremely difficult layouts, like false fronts and several layers.
