Midlothian Country Club is an iconic golf course located in Midlothian, Illinois, just south of Chicago. Founded in 1898, it is one of the oldest golf clubs in the United States, and it has played host to some of the most prestigious golf tournaments in history.
The golf course at Midlothian Country Club was designed by renowned Scottish golf course architect Donald Ross, who is also responsible for other legendary courses such as Pinehurst No. 2 and Oakland Hills Country Club. Ross's design principles are evident throughout the course, with rolling fairways, challenging bunkers, and tricky greens that require precision and skill.
The course at Midlothian Country Club is a par-71 and measures just over 7,000 yards from the back tees. It features a variety of holes, with some long and open, while others are shorter and require accuracy off the tee. The course's signature hole is the par-3 13th, which requires a tee shot over water to a narrow green that is surrounded by bunkers.
The course has hosted several significant golf tournaments over the years, including the U.S. Open in 1914 and the Western Open on numerous occasions. It has also been a regular stop on the PGA Tour, with winners such as Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, and Jack Nicklaus all claiming victories at Midlothian Country Club.
Beyond the golf course, Midlothian Country Club also boasts an impressive clubhouse that was originally built in 1911 and has been expanded and renovated over the years. The clubhouse features a range of amenities, including dining options, locker rooms, and banquet facilities for events and weddings.
Overall, Midlothian Country Club is a true gem of American golf, with a rich history and a challenging course that has tested some of the greatest golfers of all time. Its timeless design and commitment to excellence have kept it relevant and in demand for more than a century, and it remains a popular destination for golfers and fans of the game alike.
